Privacy Notice

Last updated: June 10, 2026

TurdTracker is a community game for spotting and cleaning up dog waste. This notice explains what we collect, why, and the controls you have. We try to keep it short and human-readable. If anything is unclear, contact us at hello@turdtracker.xyz.

What we collect

  • Account: email, username, password hash, optional display name, bio, location text.
  • Reports: photo, GPS coordinates, size, optional note, timestamps.
  • Activity: verifications, votes, cleanups, point events.
  • Technical: IP address (for abuse prevention only), browser type, basic request logs.

Photos and faces

Public posters intentionally fuzz reported coordinates to roughly a 25-metre grid so a report can't pinpoint a specific home. We recommend you avoid uploading photos containing identifiable people, license plates, or house numbers. Submit a takedown request via the "Report this poster" button on any poster page and we will remove the photo promptly.

How we protect locations and people

  • Fuzzed coordinates: every public surface (poster pages, the live map, share links) snaps pins to a ~28-metre grid. Cleaned reports drop to a coarser ~165-metre grid so the exact house can't be reverse-engineered after the fact.
  • No-go zones: when you create a report, the server checks the spot and refuses anything that looks like a private home, school, hospital, or similar.
  • Sign-in required: only signed-in users can create reports, and we rate-limit reports, verifications, and flags per account.
  • No naming people: notes are capped at 140 characters and the server rejects links, phone numbers, @handles, addresses, and "names a person" patterns.
  • Photo required: every report needs a photo so the community can verify it. Cleaned reports drop the original photo from public view and disappear from the map after 7 days.
  • Flag & remove: three community flags on a poster auto-hide it pending review. Reporters can remove their own posters at any time, and our moderators can remove abusive content and pause repeat offenders.

Location

We use your device's location only when you tap "Use my location" or place a pin on the map. We don't track you in the background. Exact coordinates are stored server-side for moderation and analytics; public surfaces show fuzzed coordinates only (see above).

Cookies

We use a single first-party cookie to keep you logged in. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. We don't sell personal data.

Your rights

Under GDPR (EU/EEA), CCPA (California), and similar laws elsewhere, you can:

  • Access a copy of your data.
  • Correct inaccurate data via Settings.
  • Delete your account and all associated reports (cleanups stay anonymous to preserve community history).
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent.
  • File a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

Email hello@turdtracker.xyz from the address on your account to exercise any of these. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Retention

Active reports are retained while public. Cleaned reports stay searchable for community history. Deleted accounts are wiped within 30 days; backups age out within 90 days.

Children

TurdTracker is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). If we learn we have collected data from a child below the applicable age, we delete it.

Changes

We may update this notice. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
